Dream Symbolism Archives

This was a recent dream, that I'm still wondering about and can't find any info elsewhere to suggest what it means.
There was no other real memory of the dream other than I saw a strong image of two fairly large, dead snakes biting each others mouth in a lock. They were somewhere in my house, can't remember where I found them in the dream.

About 1 month prior to that dream I had another snake dream of millions of little tiny snakes getting in my house and darting through it and I couldn't find them. Not sure what that is supposed to mean either. Thanks.

The first thing that comes to mind is rebirth.

In Greek myth the serpent symbolised rebirth, renewal and new life. A popular story (which appears in several different myths), tells of a pair-bonded male and female snake. The male snake is killed, and the female arrives with a magical herb in its mouth which it places in the mouth of its dead partner. The second snake miraculously returns to life, rejuvenated, shedding its old skin.

The image of two dead snakes mouth to mouth in a dream might suggest iminent rejuvenation-rebirth.

The Greeks often symbolised this with the image of the two-headed amphisbaena, whose twin heads touch symbolically forming the circle of life.

Dream Symbolism Question:?

What does it mean when in a dream:

1. You're naked
2. You're in a public place (in my case, a busy upscale restaurant).
3. But you don't give a damn. In fact, you're really nonchalant about it and you go off doing you're own business, smiling and all (I forgot what I was doing but this is my case).

I asked because in dreams, generally what I've read and what I've been told is that when you're naked it's a sign that you're insecure about yourself and/or you're worried that people will catch you "naked" in a situation. Just asking, thanks.

In your case, it means you're confident. Take it or leave it is what you're saying. You have nothing to hide; you are who you are. (And this is not sexual by the way).

Okay.

Since I was little I've had a vivid, recurring dream where I often return to a canal-type place. Only it is deep and long like a river, but the water is completely still. I always dream about traveling there first; on the back of a motorcycle, on a bus, in the flatbed of a truck. I never go alone, bringing family or friends or following some type of tour guide who knows the place well. Mostly I've gone with my dad.The water runs parallel to a highway. It is absolutely still. We row boats that leave us waist-deep or swim, in which I am either naked or close to it. Sometimes it is dark. I really hate going there for some reason.

Does this mean anything at all? Can anyone pick through this and relate to me what it could possibly mean? I have tried to turn over answers myself but I'm completely lost. Thank you, and +10 points for your helpfulness!!

It sounds like some deeply buried negative emotion concerning your dad. Something that doesn't change. Perhaps it is something about you don't like, or something that he did that you don't think he has made up for.

It seems as though the place you go to is not so much about life as a journey, but only one particular aspect of your life, obviously a negative one, one that you can't escape until you acknowledge it and take action in reality.

I am not sure if this "problem" is obvious to you or still buried, but it definitely sounds like it needs out.

Hope this helps.

Requiem For a Dream Symbolism?

what are some symbols used in requiem for a dream

i noticed that towards the end of the movie they all slept in the same posistion and this means they need there drugs because all 4 characters (harry, tyrone, sara, and harrys girl) all have drug addictions and they dont have there drugs so they curl there legs up... thats what i think

My husband and I were moving into a octagonal (8 sided) house with glass walls located high up on a bluff over-looking the Gulf of Mexico...The water stretched outward under the sun, sparkling...we were hanging wooden bench swings on the deck...I said "This one must face SW and this one must face SE"...my parents drifted through and then my husband's best friend, who announced he was moving in with us...I told him "No! You will have to move out within 1 to 6 weeks!" and my husband agreed...so any thoughts on the meaning of this dream? ha ha! Odd dream...I dreamed all night long but this is what I remember the most....

I've had similar dreams to this, and here's what I think.

You are a strong lady who knows her own mind. I think you were overriding sensations of lust with proper reasoning inyour dream. When we don't face things in daily life, they will tend to come back into our dreams to haunt us.

You are in a very warm, if not decidedly hot, place. You're swinging things 'down south'. You mentioned an ogtagonal house - did your sleeping mind come up with eight (ate). Lust is a simple instinct or hunger common to us all (or the human race would not exist!).

Also, you were in a glass house and everybody you cared for could see what was going on inside. Are you really that see-through? Perhaps in daily life you are aware that others are picking up on a slightly increased chemistry between your husband's friend and yourself.

You told the friend in your dream that he would have to leave in a set amount of time. You know, deep down inside, that any fleeting chemistry between you and another man other than your husband is just that - fleeting.

I congratulate you on your strong marriage and family, and also your strong mind!

Dream symbolism: the snake?

I had a dream last night that I was with my boyfriend and I noticed a little bump on his head. When I told him about it he touched it and then tried to squeeze it open. Then a snake started to come out and as he was pulling and tugging it, I could feel like it was coming out of my head too. Any ideas what this could symbolize?

Snake dreams can actually mean a lot. I once had a dream that a black mamba was in disguise as my cat and trying to kill me. Crazy right? Ok, now let me answer your question. To see a snake in your dream, signifies hidden fears and worries that are threatening you. Your dream may be alerting you to something in your waking life that you are not aware of or that has not yet surfaced. Alternatively, the snake may also be seen as phallic and thus symbolize temptation, dangerous and forbidden sexuality. It can also mean that someone around you who is rude and untrustworthy may backstab you soon, so my advice if this is the case, be cautious with what you say, it might turn around on you. As a positive symbol, snakes represent healing, change, knowledge and wisdom. So if the positive symbol is what the dream was caused by, then woo hoo! Good luck!

Dream Symbolism, Titanic?

I had a dream i was on the Titanic last night, I even did the little movie scene where they stand at the front of the boat with their arms out, ya know what i'm talking about. I can't find anything online to say what this might mean. Any suggestions?

The scene you dreamt about has become so familliar to us, that it is part of our mental language. It is a symbol for something we don't have a word for, but we all understand the sensation. Rose: "I'm flying!" Jack: "I'm the king of the world!" We understand not only that feeling, but the underpinnings of worry that something will go wrong. We know it is just the last sunset before the shadow of doom falls.

That is the universal part of it that I can interpret, as clearly you are experiencing those emotional sensations in your life. But there is more. And this part you have to help me with, since you didn't mention it. What you need to do next is to remember what lines were said in the dream. Remember them? Good, now: when you are watching "The Titanic", and you hear those lines, experiencing those scenes, what thoughts pass through your mind? Since only you knows those exact thoughts, only you can figure this part out. For instance, if you dreamed of "I'll never let go," what does "I'll never let go" mean to YOU? And what you think of is what is now of concern in your personal life. There you have it.

Dream Interpretation-symbolism?

I was wondering...how is it that all dreams can be interpreted the same for everyone-if that is even a correct statement. For example, I dream about snakes ALL the time and I know the meaning of them in my dreams and I am afraid of snakes in real life, but what if someone who loves snakes or owns one as a pet dreams about snakes...couldn't it be that the symbolism of snakes in that persons dream could mean something else?

You are right about that. Symbolism basically is based on statistical method. The owner of the dream should know the symbol rather than general symbolism. That is why those so called website or books are only reference. They have no fixed truth basis. In other words, different background and different culture could have different symbolism.

i love dream symbolism sometimes they're like a great detective stories...
so i pitched a tent in my backyard because i was angry at my mother and my sister came out to comfort me , i pulled the cocoon from her throat gently with surgical precision and a butterfly hatched from it.

we had been talking in the weeks before about butterflies in particular the viceroy which camouflages as a monarch butterfly to confuse predators.

anyone want to take a crack at decoding this. or what butterflies mean in dreams??
you guys are useless

That she took you under her wing to help you feel better.

You see something special in her that is just taking time to develop.

Define the symbolism behind my dream?

I am looking for someone who may be able to interrupt my dream. Last night I was dreaming. Myself and 7 others I don’t know were found guilty in court for terrorist act. The sentence was hanging. One by one the rope was slipped over our heads and we were asked for last words. Everyone said no they had nothing to say. I was the last person to be asked if I had anything to say. I began saying I didn’t to it. I was shocked that the judge found me guilty. I try to explain I’d never do anything of such horrific nature to anyone, and I can not understand why no one believes me. I said I wanted my family there with me, in the back ground I heard my much younger niece laughing, and her mom told her to shut up, and called her by name. They were slipping the hood over my head when I woke up. When I woke up I was crying.

Dreams can usually be traced back to something the dreamer saw during the day. If we are worried our anxieties can interrupt our sleep, have you recently done something that is troubling your conscience and which you feel your family would condemn? It's not so much the specifics of the dream that are important, more that the dream indicates an unresolved conflict you are feeling frustrated about.
