Lucid dreaming is one of the few true blessings we can find in our own minds. Becoming conscious in your own dreamworld is like finding a new universe, full of secrets and wonders. It's a realm that will give you a lot of fun, because you can control it, and wisdom, because you can connect with your subconsciousness.
I'll give you 4 basic and very important tips that every lucid dreamer should know.
1. Create a dream journal and write a description of every dream that you can remember. This will greatly increase your dream recall. It's best to have a physical object as your journal, a notebook for example. That way you can carry it with you at all times and write everything that you may recall during the day. It's all right to keep a journal in an electronic form (that's what I do actually, it still works well). The first option is still better.
2. Perform reality checks when you see something that's just a bit unusual. Simple, but very powerful. If you forget to do them, set an alarm to go off every hour (that's just an example) and do them whenever it rings. The most important part is that you have to truly believe that you are in a dream.
3. Keep an eye on your daily schedule, especially on the times of your sleep. It's best to get anywhere from six to nine hours of sleep, although it varies from person to person. Going to bed at the same time every day is very important. It sets your internal clock, so your body knows when to relax. That gives better dreams, which are more vivid and easier to remember.
4. Avoid junk food and caffeine. These two can really ruin your experience. Carefully plan your diet. What you should really look for are choline and B vitamins, especially B5. Vitamin B5 and choline are used to create the major neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) used in REM sleep.
Follow these important steps and you will have a much easier time attaining lucidity, plus your dreams in general will become more vivid and fun. Good luck!
